|Wine:||Seppeltsfield Para Tawny|
Good evening wine lovers,
Tonight I revisit Christmas day once again with this Para Tawny. Referred sometimes as liquid Christmas, this fortified wine captures all the flavours and characters we associate with Christmas desserts, like pudding, custards and fruitcakes. The Para I am looking at tonight comes from one of the World’s best producers of fortified wines.
Seppeltsfield produces many aged fortified wines, and the one that I am looking at tonight is part of their 21-year-old release, as we are now in 2016, the 1995 vintage is now available for purchase. However, I have a bottle of 1994 on my hands. So, let’s move on to the wine itself and give it a review.
Colour: Amber with Scarlet/Gold Rim.
Aroma: Roasted Nuts, Pralines, Butterscotch, Dried Orange Zest.
Palate: Roasted Almonds, brown sugar, maple and golden syrup, sorbet and treacle. It offers a well-rounded mouth feel, it’s not overly dense, however, it is packed with flavour that just keeps on running on and on. Couple that with great acidity which doesn’t allow this wine to run away in a plethora of sweetness, and this is quite an exceptional example of a brilliant Para Liquor. The finish is something exquisite, like lightly smoked/roasted almonds coated in a toffee glaze. This is a Para that begs you to keep on drinking more. It is fantastic! I wouldn’t be surprised once you consumed a glass that the first words you utter were “wow”. As you unconsciously poured more into your glass.
Yet another premium example of why fortified wines is a Seppeltsfield speciality. One of the best Para vintages I have come across, the 2014 vintage is nothing short of brilliant.
Drink: Now and if stored correctly up to 2075
