Good evening and happy new year to all you wine lovers!
Let’s start off 2016 with a beautiful an easy wine for you all. Rose` is a simple summer time drink that can be enjoyed by itself, or with food accompanying it. Tonight I take a look at one of Australia’s best Rose` varietals put out by Turkey Flat Vineyards.
Colour: Watermelon, with rose gold tinge. With a pale pink hue.
Aroma: Strawberries, raspberry, glazed red cherries, soft lashings of rose perfume
Palate: Rich mouth feel for a rose`. Soft fruits of strawberry and raspberry jump out in a creamy texture that delivers some sweetness and density to the wine. The wine then loses some of that sweetness as it tails off into the finish, bringing along some spice, and savoury tones which brings a characteristic of musk into play. Crisp acid rounds off this wine, which brings a layer of complexity, which makes it just that little bit extra special than most rose` wines.
We have such a nice wine here, and it is no coincidence, as Turkey Flat has been known for producing some of the best Rose` wine which tend to score within the mid 90s out of 100 consistently year after year from the nation’s best wine critics. If you like a rose` and now that we are in the depth of Summer, then I suggest that you look into this wine for your next Summertime gathering. This wine is pleasant enough to drink by itself. Or, you can match it up to some of your favourite dried fruits and soft cheeses without too much complexity. Even seafood would not suffer with this paired up alongside it. When it comes to Rose` this is one that both the novice and the wine critic amongst us all will enjoy.
Best Served slightly chilled or on ice, but not too cold. Otherwise you lose the fruit complexity and flavour of the wine.
Drink: Now to 2018
Cheers and happy new year!
