Winery: Mildara Wines
Varietal: Grand Tawny (Port)
Good evening once again wine lovers. Tonight I am once again back onto fortified wine.
This fortified beverage is one of the favourites of my old man, who used to consume this frequently back when he was my age. I thought that over fathers day, I would buy this for dad and then try a bit for myself and see what I thought of a drink he holds in high regard.
The nose is promising. Robust raisin and fruit spice, accompanied by dried orange peal and oak. (Thanks to 12 years in an oak barrel.)
The palate transmits sweet raisin, fruit spices and nuts. There is a dry finish, with a semi sweet undertones of orange and pear.
Quite a nice little fortified for the price. It has very good flavours and textures throughout, displaying all the right characters we want with our tawny wines. Well played dad. This is not a bad drink at all.
