Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
I looked at this wine because a short review in the Advertiser top 100 Wines stated that this was a Cabernet seriously worth the investment. For $25.00, I thought I should give it a run through and report a bit more in depth about this wine. Secondly I really love a good Cabernet on a cold winter’s night.
On the nose, it is a very distinctive blackberry aroma, accompanied by traces of prune, nutmeg and star anise.
On the palate, mulberry and blackberry works well with a dusting of oak spice and slight earthy qualities. This wine is a great display of things working together and it runs into a lengthy finish of blackberry and dark cherry working with mild fruit tannin. The wine is well balanced, and everything is kept in check without getting carried away. This wine is quintessential Coonawarra style Cabernet and that is pretty much the best praise you can give to Australian Cabernet’s. What’s better is it will only cost you $25.00, and it is money well spent.
If you are looking for a quality Cabernet Sauvignon that isn’t going to blow the budget, then I would say this is one of the best under $30.00 Cabernet’s I have encountered in a long time, and you would be mad to let something this good and at this price go wayward.
